  • Eemil throws his way to U23 European Championship bronze

    Eemil Porvari won the bronze medal in the men’s javelin throw at the U23 European Championships in Bergen, Norway. The competition was won by Ukrainian Artur Felfner with a throw of 81.14 m, silver went to Germany’s Nick Thumm with a personal best of 80.74 m, and Eemil’s best throw reached 79.88 m. Finland earned four medals in Bergen – two golds and two bronzes, one of which was Eemil’s. Eemil Porvari in Bergen, Norway In the qualification round, Eemil Porvari threw 80.26 m on his second attempt, securing a direct spot in the final. He topped the entire qualification competition. The automatic qualification mark was set at 76.00 m or the top 12 athletes would advance. Eemil’s throw of 80.26 m was clearly among the best. His first attempt flew high and fell short, but the second throw soared far and solidified his place in the final. Eemil in the middle of his throw The final was held on July 19, and Eemil Porvari’s best throw came in the fifth round, measuring 79.88 m. The medal positions in the final standings were: Artur Felfner (UKR)  – 81.14 m Nick Thumm (GER)  – 80.74 m Eemil Porvari (FIN)  – 79.88 m Eemil’s season best before the championships was 81.55 m. He was in contention for silver during the final, but the defending European U23 champion, Artur Felfner, secured the gold with his last throw. The other Finnish athlete in the final, Tuomas Närhi , placed eighth with a result of 71.87 m. Eemil felt he had more in the tank. While the power was there, the technique didn’t fully click during the final. In an interview with YLE, he shared his thoughts: “The bronze definitely feels good after a really tough spring. Still, I’m a bit disappointed — it felt like I had a lot more potential in me.”

  • Javelin season kicks off in Cyprus with a confident performance

    Eemil’s javelin season kicked off in the warmth of the south at the European Throwing Cup 2025, held in Cyprus on Sunday, March 16. Eemil Throwing at Cyprus. Although javelin throws won’t be seen in Finland for a while yet, the season was still able to kick off in ideal conditions under the southern sun. Alongside Eemil, the competition featured many of Europe’s promising young javelin talents, such as Germany’s Max Dehning and the Czech Republic’s Kryštof Kozač. The event showcased a wide range of young throwers from across Europe. The competition got off to a sharp start as Greece’s Ioannis Kyriazis threw 84.38m on his second attempt—good enough to secure the win. Eemil stayed in strong contention for a medal for much of the event, until Poland’s Cyprian Mrzygłód edged ahead with his final throw. Eemil’s best mark of the day was 81.55m, which earned him fourth place in Cyprus. Above are the results of the men's javelin final at the European Throwing Cup 2025 in Cyprus. "Eemil’s own thoughts after the competition were that it was a solid start to the season. After a productive winter training period, he feels that both his throwing arm and technique are in good shape for the upcoming summer season—with just a bit of fine-tuning needed. “The throws were a bit rushed, but all things considered, it was a pretty decent competition. It was good to see in the middle of the training season that I'm in a good shape.” The competition served as a great warm-up for the main summer season. Now we wait to see how Eemil’s summer unfolds as the weather warms up in Finland and the athletics season gets underway.

    In addition to javelin throwing, Eemil has also delivered impressive performances in several other track and field events. Eemil Porvari is best known as a javelin thrower, but his athletic versatility has been evident from a young age. He has competed in Finnish national championships in long jump, triple jump, the 400m, and the decathlon. In all of these events, Eemil has reached medal positions. Javelin throwing requires explosiveness, strength, and technique. Eemil's diverse athletic background has helped him develop these qualities—especially explosiveness—for javelin as well. While his main focus will continue to be on javelin, Eemil plans to keep competing in sprints and jumps as well.
