Eemil’s javelin season kicked off in the warmth of the south at the European Throwing Cup 2025, held in Cyprus on Sunday, March 16.

Although javelin throws won’t be seen in Finland for a while yet, the season was still able to kick off in ideal conditions under the southern sun. Alongside Eemil, the competition featured many of Europe’s promising young javelin talents, such as Germany’s Max Dehning and the Czech Republic’s Kryštof Kozač. The event showcased a wide range of young throwers from across Europe.
The competition got off to a sharp start as Greece’s Ioannis Kyriazis threw 84.38m on his second attempt—good enough to secure the win. Eemil stayed in strong contention for a medal for much of the event, until Poland’s Cyprian Mrzygłód edged ahead with his final throw. Eemil’s best mark of the day was 81.55m, which earned him fourth place in Cyprus.

"Eemil’s own thoughts after the competition were that it was a solid start to the season. After a productive winter training period, he feels that both his throwing arm and technique are in good shape for the upcoming summer season—with just a bit of fine-tuning needed.
“The throws were a bit rushed, but all things considered, it was a pretty decent competition. It was good to see in the middle of the training season that I'm in a good shape.”
The competition served as a great warm-up for the main summer season. Now we wait to see how Eemil’s summer unfolds as the weather warms up in Finland and the athletics season gets underway.
